Do I Have OCD? How Do I Know? – Time to Spot the Signs

Do I Have OCD? How Do I Know? – Time to Spot the Signs

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder that affects a person’s overall functionality. There are many factors that can trigger OCD. Yet, Mental Health Therapy can help a person overcome the behaviors associated with OCD.

But how do you know if you have OCD? Can you determine it for yourself? Yes, you can.

OCD manifests in two symptoms, which can also be a combination of both. These symptoms are obsessions, compulsions, or both. When one has OCD, the behaviors begin as minor actions that seem normal to anybody. Yet in the long term, these behaviors can already affect your mental perception on things and situations.

Obsession is when you cannot stop yourself from thinking or being afraid of one thing. These obsessions often show in different themes, which include the following:

  • Need to Organize: You are not peaceful until the items are placed in their proper order or when the things at home are arranged in a certain way.
  • Fear of Dirt: You don’t want to touch things that others have touched, or you don’t like being hugged or hand-shaken. You fear that germs can get passed on to you.
  • Fear of Making a Mistake: You always want to hear encouragement or assurance from other people that you are not doing anything wrong.

These are common signs of abnormal obsessions. When you sense these in you, seek Counseling Services in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

On the other hand, compulsions are those actions or rituals that you repeatedly do. You may not even realize that you have done these already. The common examples include:

  • Hand-washing: You keep on washing your hands over and over again.
  • Checking: You repeatedly check appliances if they have been turned off or the door if it has been locked.
  • Routines: You have the urge to do implement routines in a certain order before leaving home.
