The Dangers of Having Low Self-Esteem

The Dangers of Having Low Self-Esteem

There are a lot of causes of low self-esteem. While self-esteem just describes how you feel about yourself and how you measure your worth, a lot of negative things can happen if this gets attacked or stepped on. But what are the things that lower our self-esteem nowadays, especially that we are in the digital era? Telehealth therapy can definitely help when it comes to boosting your self-esteem, but you can also manage it at home and by yourself at times.

People who have low self-esteem feel poorly about themselves and see themselves as inferior to others. Sometimes this may feel normal but there’s always the possibility that people who feel this way are at risk of not fulfilling their true potential in life. They may not pursue personal goals or put any effort into their schooling or careers. The hardest part is when they accept poor treatment from family members, partners, and friends. This can lead to negative effects such as dropping out of school, alcohol and drug abuse, disordered eating, cutting, and even criminal behavior. When the negative effects of low self-esteem become too much, a person may need mental health counseling in order to fully recover.

Our counseling services in Ohio can point out how to manage these risks.

It’s true that having low self-esteem can take a big toll on our lives. Self-esteem is particularly a state of mind, thus, with hard work and willpower, it can be changed.
