Alcohol: Women’s Health Issue

Alcohol: Women’s Health Issue

Too much consumption of alcohol presents a health challenge for women as well. Heavy drinking is much riskier for women than it is for men, according to studies. Although every woman is different, an increased intake of alcohol can be similarly harmful to all. But how much is too much? For women, safe levels of alcohol consumption are recommended in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. But when alcohol intake becomes severe, substance disorder treatment becomes necessary. Some may even avail of telehealth therapy for convenience.

Women who drink too much are at risk of different kinds of diseases. Alcohol interacts with a wide variety of medicines. Women who use pain relievers during menstruation should not at all drink alcohol. Research also suggests that drinking alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer in some women, especially those who have a family history of such conditions and those who are postmenopausal. Another condition that can be an effect of increased alcohol intake is fetal alcohol syndrome, which happens when a pregnant woman continues drinking and consequently harms her baby to birth defects. Thus, if you or your partner is suffering from heavy alcohol consumption or alcoholism, it is good to avail of our substance abuse counseling in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
